How to get high PR, high traffic links for free

So, I've recently stumbled across a great new way of getting inbound links which I'm ready to share. Especially given the current controversy over paid links, this method of link acquisition has the following advantages:

• It's free, so therefore it's in compliance with Google's requirements
• It's free, so therefore a PR8 link will cost just as much as a PR2 link
• You're quite likely to get good traffic if you target the right sites
• You may even get some recognition out of it!
• Oh, and it's free

Basically, this new link technique comes from a recently created WordPress plugin called "Top Commentators". Because WordPress makes all commenter URLs "nofollow", this is a simple way to reward blog readers for their loyalty and contributions to a blog. The people with the most comments are listed (usually sitewide) in the sidebar, and if they've included a URL then it's a direct text link. Some blogs even allow you to use a link title instead of your name!

What this means is that you could get a text link on a very popular blog, which could be PR5+ and receive thousands of daily visitors, absolutely free. But I do provide these few caveats:

• It may be free, but it's still work. It takes time and effort to read posts and provide insightful or useful feedback on each.
• Other people would also like to be Top Commentators, so you can expect some competition.
• Don't spam. Remember, blogs are run by people. If your title is "Cheap Viagra" and you have 3 comments on every post that says "good point", "well said" or "I agree", you'd better expect to be banned.
• Don't make stuff up. Offer insight when you have it. Disagree if you really have a point. That way, people (including the blogger) will begin to value your input, you'll even see more traffic to your site.
• Be patient. If you're not spamming, it means you're probably not commenting more than once per post. So expect a couple of weeks to a month, before you're even at the bottom of the Top Commentators list.
• Keep working at it! Otherwise you'll be knocked off!

If you're wondering which blogs to find this on, it's relatively simple.  First, check your favourite blog to see if it's already there. Second, search Google for "blog Top Commentator", and go through to see which blogs appear to be using that plugin. Third, just use this list.

Anyhow, this isn't a cheat or an exploit, it's a mutually-beneficial arrangement for the blogger and their commentators. The blogger gets return traffic and more content, and the commentator gets a link. So enjoy!
